The Turkish Cat Society (TCS) was formed in 2004 by a group of enthusiasts keen to seek recognition for the white Turkish cat, and also its van-patterned offspring.  Additionally, at that time the Turkish Angora had no official breed club in the UK, so the it was agreed from the outset that the Turkish Cat Society would also represent the Turkish Angora cat.

The Turkish Van cat had been recognised in the UK for many years, and was already represented by two breed clubs, the Turkish Van Cat Club and the Classic Turkish Van Cat Association, so the need for a third club supporting these cats was questionable.  However one of the purposes of the TCS was to seek recognition for the van-patterned offspring of a Turkish Vankedisi, which at the time were registered by the GCCF as of Turkish Type.  The consensus of breeders and other interested parties considered that these cats should in fact be registered as Turkish Vans, so in order to pursue this goal the TCS regarded it essential that they play an active part in the policy governing the registration of Turkish Vans.

The TCS is currently being administered as a "ghost" club, with no official members. This website is being maintained in the interests of the Turkish breeds, and the public at large.
